Over the years, many members have told us they'd like their broader network to be able to join us too.
We've listened. Now your family and former UniSuper members can join us through Personal Accounts.
Who can join?
As long as you’re living in Australia and are:
- related to a UniSuper member,
- a former UniSuper member wanting to re-join, or
- working in an honorary or affiliate role with a university, you can open a Personal Account and enjoy the benefits of being a UniSuper member.
Personal Accounts offer accumulation-style super (like our Accumulation 1 accounts) and you can apply any time without an initial deposit. We’ve also made it easier than ever to apply—simply sign up online.
Introducing Kristen Sandhu—one of our first Personal Account members
We recently spoke with one of the first people to sign up for a Personal Account—Kristen Sandhu. Kristen lives in Armidale, New South Wales and recently decided to re-join UniSuper through Personal Accounts after leaving the higher education sector a number of years ago.
Can you tell us a bit about yourself?
I’m a busy working mum with two children aged 10 and 12 and a husband who’s already a UniSuper member working at the University of New England.
Why did you apply for a Personal Account?
I’d previously worked at the University of New England and really liked being a UniSuper member. However, when I left my job there and started working in the health sector my new employer didn’t offer choice, so I had to close my UniSuper account and open a new account with a different super provider. I was never as happy with them as I was with UniSuper so now that I’m starting another new job, I decided I’d like to try to re-join UniSuper.
Last week I called your member centre to work out how to reactivate my account and they told me I could re-join from Monday 2October by opening a Personal Account—so that’s what I did!
How did you find the online application process?
When I spoke to UniSuper, a consultant told me to call if I had any difficulty using the online application form—but I didn’t need to. It was a very easy website. I now plan to transfer my other super back to UniSuper.
And finally, what does your ideal retirement look like?
My ideal retirement will be one in which financially I have enough super to lead a comfortable life for myself and family. My husband and I also want to travel around Australia and overseas and pay our home mortgage. We also would like to help our children financially.
